I love this book. Reading it, it felt like I relived my own loss, grief and that journey to healing. Different rooms brought back memories of different sounds, smells and sight. Moving through the rooms, I felt that surrender and even the expectations of others on how I should grief drop off me. I’m doing OK; I am home.

The House We Become is a soft and warm guide to grief and healing. Jill Marie Teer uses rooms as a way to show the steps from loss to hope. Each room gives comfort, calm, and gentle reminders that light will return. Recommended!

Awed by how the author used a style that’s so poetic yet very relatable and understandable. As author describes each room it made me go back to the rooms of our ancestral home and imagine each nook where I wrestled with grief while trying to tell myself not to be defeated by the sadness loss brings. I appreciate how the author walks the reader slowly, with a graceful flow, a hope that is strong and intentional. It did not dwell on the darkness of the grief but rather on the possibilities on how such painful experience can transform a person by not attempting to make grief be buried and forgotten, but to accept it as a companion of beautiful memories that enable a new self discovery.
